Greensleeves, mice, and books
A side note: I have finally finished "House of Leaves" and started "Guns, Germs, and Steel". The former was an incredible book with an amazing amount of quotable work. I'd recommend it to anyone who has at least some kind of an attention span and who doesn't mind literary tricks. My parents, for instance, would be driven mad by the book. Heh heh.
Yesterday:
Yesterday was.... interesting.
I wrote 24 measures in six hours. I probably could have taken less time, but I stressed. Why was I stressed? Because last night I was to (and did) get together with Julie to rehearse this very same piece so that we could perform it today....
.... And I had just realized I left a major section out.
But it's all done, and after her pointing out a few sections of 'Fix that' and me fixing it, we rehearsed. And will do so again this morning.
As my entire day was pretty much taken up by this piece of music, I have nothing else to report on it.
Today:
Today actually started out at about 12:30 a.m., when I heard a scratching noise in the bed. I thought, at first, that it was my puppy dog, Hunter. He sleeps next to the bed (now that he's too old to get onto it), and sometimes when he sleeps, his feet move. I would have been happier if that is all that it had been. I turned on the light, the sound went away, I worked on getting back to sleep.
Thirty minutes later, when I was sinking yet again into sleep, the scratching noise returned. I went through the same movements: peeked up, noticed Hunter's feet weren't moving as the scratching continued, and finally turned on the lamp.
Total, dead silence.
And so began the cycle. I'd shut the light off, readjust, start to drift off, and that damn scratching would return. My parents, you see, have been trying to hunt down an elusive mouse... And it appears he's found a home in the bottom of my boxed-in bed.
So I eventually hauled my ass out of bed. I've got to head out to practice in a few hours and - wouldn't you know it - there are some finally textual inserts I need to .... well .... insert into Greensleeves before practice.
I was going to say more, but I forget. So... Uh...
The end.

Snow Playin'
Alas.
The snow was not sticky this day, so no snowmen were made. Perhaps tomorrow the weather will alter enough for me to create more than a few snowangels.
It was nice to play in nonetheless. My father's dog, Hunter, and I romped around. It's like he gets the Devil in him, getting all fiesty, full of piss and vinegar, rompin' and snortin' and kickin' up the snow like an adult bull whose balls have been tied and flanks have been cut. After lots of racing around and so forth, he accompanied me to my parents' many sheds, and I shoveled the roofs until all were clear.
Then? I played Servant to both parents, running Christmas Present errands. By the time I got home, I was ready to growl at whoever chose to nitpick. Thankfully, they caught scent of my irritation and backed off. Two things that irritate me the most: shopping and driving. Go figure that I did plenty of both, today.
Whooped ass again at Cribbage with my parents, until just before dinner, when my mom FINALLY skunked me. Bully for her, I say. =) Those two, though... It's amazing, how very Non-Quick adult brains work. They can't hold an attention span for a movie that has more than two main characters and a straight-forward plot - something obvious to me when I put on the movie "Love Actually", a movie, btw, that everyone should love. Dammit. Ten minutes into the movie, they wandered off with excuses. Hell.
Tomorrow my sister and Julie get in. I'll finally be able to (hopefully) bolt some music ideas off Julie and practice before Saturday's performance. We'll see how that goes.

Brief Vacation Update
(crossposted on LiveJournal.)
We have these gorgeous woodpeckers that feed with the many birds off the back of my parents deck. You can find an image of one here. I'm a wildnerness/wildlife freak, so suffice to say I have spent many minutes in the past two days just watching the birds.
The moose are also heavily prevalent in town, which isn't necessarily abnormal, unless you take into consideration that the mountains around us haven't received heavy snow - which is usually why the moose will come into town.... the snow is too heavy and either unmanageable or smothering food sources.
And, at last, we have snow! Yay! =) I'm going to spend a good part of today making Calvin and Hobbes snowmen. Hopefully I can do a good enough job and borrow my dad's camera to provide pictures. We'll see how it goes.

I accomplished great things! Or not...
This Weekend I...:
1. Finally got ahold of Miss Parshall, sent her a .mid file of the piece I arranged, and discussed where I should modify things. I even started fiddling with it, but the boys had the TV so loud that even with headphones on I couldn't hear my modifications, and so therefore gave up. My new goal is to insert three key changes for the four-sectioned progression, modifying it solely from the original key of D minor to two other keys and then returning to D minor. Haven't decided what the two other keys will be.
2. Went dancing. Learned to always wear socks with my stompy boots, no matter what.
3. Finished our last garage sale. Thank. God. I mean that very seriously. I don't want to do another garage sale for a long, long time.
4. Went apartment shopping. I didn't like any place but one that we went to see, and my contact over the phone quoted me one price, while in person quoted me $300 more. Yeah, screw him. We don't need no stinkin' apartment. We'll live on the streets, yo.
5. Went to Joe's art display at a show in Downtown Tempe with a few of our friends. People-watched, which was far more entertaining than one might originally suspect. The pomposity and snobbery and artsy-fartsy wanna-bes mixed with hippies, college students, etc. was entertaining... even more entertaining when I came to realize that half the people there were going to get laid just on their attitude alone. Oy, and what icky attitudes. Oh well.
6. Did various other errands. Grocery shopping, Christmas Card stuff, house cleaning, blah blah blah. Nothing very exciting, but stuff that I needed to finish before I leave for Alaska.
7. Oh! Oh! And Joe and I took our Second Annual Wedding Picture. As soon as he gives it to me, I'll post it. =) This year was a Mexico theme. =)
/update. There, bitches. You happy?

Random Word of the Day
I have to admit, I cheated. I took this word from a post made by Jen. It was just way, way too cool to ignore.
Solipsistic
1. The theory that the self is the only thing that can be known and verified.
2. The theory or view that the self is the only reality.
This week is winding down, and I am glad for it. I have vowed to accomplish everything this weekend that I should have and did not last weekend.... which is pretty much everything. On a side note, I actually sent off a .mus attachment to Julie for Greensleeves, hoping she can somehow figure it out and open it up to listen to/look at the music.
To Do, starting today:
1. Wash car. My God it's filthy. Even washing it and then having rain and wind dump debris on it would still make it cleaner than it is right now. WTF. (Damn, it looks beautiful now.)
2. Go to To Shin Do tonight, Black Belt Club followed by regular class. Get my ass kicked around. Hopefully we won't do frog leaps as warmups again. Doh.(Yay no frog leaping! My thighs feel better already.)
3. Belt Test on Friday. GEEEZ. I can't believe it's belt test time. I thought I had another week!!!(All told, it was ok. I didn't miss a beat with the punches, but at the same time some of the 'moves' I slopped on, and one of them I didn't know. Afterwards, I quickly learned the essentials. DOH!)
4. Pick up donations for Garage Sale from Kevin, who is just plain cool. Thanks Kevin. =) (And believe it or not, it all fit in my car. BIG gifts. Thankyouthankyouthankyou.)
5. Garage Sale for Breast Cancer on Saturday, crack of dawn. Update: Postponed until next Saturday, because I'm a twit.
6. Dye my mom's damn tablecloth that I crochetted her for Xmas. I have to dye it blue because I was a complete jackass and used two different colours of thread. (White and off white) Doh. (Funny thing, that. I pre-washed it in order to rinse off foo so the dye would stick, and lo and behold I didn't use different colours of yarn... the colour from the bag that it was in had just seeped into some of the thread after a year of being in it. So it's all white and pretty now. Yay! No need to dye!)
7. Make certain Julie gets the music in a format that she can read and listen to. Discuss music with her, and any corrections that may need to be made. Figure out how the fuck to do gradual tempo changes in Finale.
8. Wrap presents. (I wrapped some. I forgot the others at work. Doh.)
9. Dye hair. Seriously. My roots are showing and the luster is gone. Strangely enough, I think Nioxin just kills henna. As soon as I start using it when I switch shampoos, suddenly everything gets muted and washed out. My other shampoos don't do that. Hrmph.
10. Begin packing presents for trip home. Trust me, it's really a task.
Additions:
11. Find and order/rent next 'marriage' outfit for 2nd annual Christmas post card.
12. Put old flute up on Craig's list.
